Life constantly refuses to cooperate with our plans! Besides, compared to the future God has dreamed for us, they are far too small anyway. When we do get counseling for our past, we emerge to discover that our future still lacks definition… and reasonable daring.
At The Center, we combine counseling and coaching that is built on a Christian foundation. These coexist in a unique, tailored-to-you blend in every session.
We help you nail down health along with some freedom all while simultaneously fighting to acquire the clarity and courage necessary to step into the life you’ve always wanted!
Only God can defuse our past while positioning us for an incredible future, using the good and bad from our past to build our tomorrow.
If you’d like a guide—a counselor & coach with a Christ-centered perspective—to help you live into a new future, while you’re processing your past, come see us at The Center!
We use “counseling” to describe helping people who still need to process wounds and loss from their past. The stuff that bleeds into the present and discolors life with pain, wounds, trauma, negativity, defensiveness, self-protection, addiction, reactionary impulses, and inevitable limitation. Counseling is a backward and inward look. Think traditional counseling or talk therapy.
“Coaching” is what we offer those looking to step up their game. People who want to live to their fullest potential. Coaches challenge us to reach a new level of presence, selflessness, service, and productivity. Coaching is a forward and outward look. Coaches show us how to live at a higher level of “reasonable risk,” purpose, and sacrifice for the good of the “team.” Think traditional athletic coaches like those on the sidelines.
“Christianity” refers to spirituality as it’s presented in the Bible and modeled by the historic figure, Jesus Christ. Christianity is an eternal and upward look. But the eternal carries present implications that many overlook. So we are primarily for people who consider themselves followers of Jesus. Think Bible-based without the rules, formulas, narrowness, condemnation, religiosity, and hypocrisy. Think Christianity that works!
There’s no one else like you. You’re a one-of-a-kind gem and should not be treated as a number, project, mistake, or basketcase to be labeled and categorized. So every time you visit we serve up a one-off session that’s as unique as you and your story is.We listen and then choose from options like encouragement, challenge, Bible verses and stories, and other tools to bring insight, clarity, direction, healing, and hope. Counseling, coaching, and Christianity in a blend that is just right for where you are and where you are trying to get!
1. Face What Was – Until we “unclick” all the filters we use to tell the story we want about our past and finally face the truth of what was, we’ll never move forward and become the truest version of ourselves.
2. Challenge What Is – Until we’re willing to admit that some of what was is still with us degrading our present, it’ll live our life for us and hamper all attempts to let God give us something better.
3. Brave What’s Next– Until we have at least begun to courageously work through the first two steps and move into enough healing and freedom to risk big enough to match God’s plans, God’s unwritten chapter will remain unwritten and we’ll never reach our God-given potential.
While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us.
Tell her about it. Tell her everything you feel. Give her every reason to accept that you’re for real.
Unexpressed emotions never die. They are buried alive and they will come forth later in uglier ways.
“Only you can prevent forest fires… If not you, who?”
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
“For the wounded and the hurting, for the lost and for the lonely, Jesus you came.”

“We need a fourth monkey… See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil… AND think no evil!”
“Hello, I’m Pastor Kerry and I’ve spent my adult life helping people figure out why Christianity doesn’t work for them.
There was a time when it didn’t work for me either! I had to work through my childhood baggage to figure out what I’d been doing wrong. I discovered that I’d been taught some things that were inaccurate, and some other things had been left out. I grew up in the church but I didn’t know God any better than… well… any better than I knew myself! I can tell you that CHRISTianity does “work” and it’s a grand adventure! I discovered that God is ready and able to provide us with all kinds of rescue, right here, right now. Jesus gave his life to secure the healing, freedom, victory, and purpose we need to live full and overcoming lives!”
“I’ve been asked how I ended up as a pastoral (Christian) counselor. It’s a long story, but if you’re interested, join me in my home office for a chat about how I got from a childhood of abuse and neglect to become the visionary founder and executive director of the Two Rivers Counseling Center.”
